Dear STAR Academy Community,
As I begin my 14th year in education, it is truly an honor to continue my journey by serving as the Director of STAR Academy. In 2007 I started as a paraprofessional working in a classroom with children with emotional disabilities. Although I was brand new to the field, I quickly developed a passion for Special Education. This passion led me to get my teaching certification in the area of Special Education and move on to become a self-contained teacher, working with children with emotional disabilities. From there I became involved in the administration aspect of Special Education, leading a High School ESS Department and eventually moving in to the Director role of a High School Alternative program.
My passion for students with disabilities drives me to create an atmosphere at STAR Academy that is positive, safe and conducive to learning for all students. I bring an energy and enthusiasm to campus that makes this a place where our students want to come every day to learn and grow as individuals.
The number one goal of our program at STAR Academy is to help students grow, both academically and emotionally, so they can develop the skills to return to their home campus. We provide our students with a high quality education while teaching them the skills to become a successful problem solver and a thinker. In order to achieve this goal, it is essential for our staff, families and community members to work together to support our students every step of the way.
I am very excited to begin my journey as the Director of STAR Academy and I am looking forward to an amazing school year.
Sincerely,
Ms. Hailee Nanchy
